Folder Designer: Custom Icons App Reviews

The icon-images generated with the apps look slightly different from the system folder icons. The blue colour is darker, the imprint shadow lighter than expected.

After creating 3 or 4 folders, the program won’t let me select any more folders. When I press the “Select Folder" dialog button the slection window pops up but immediately disappears thus preventing me from selecting any more folders. (OS X 10.10.3) Thanks

I can create personalized folders, the app works as promised. Easy to use.

Free app on net blows this away. Wish I had donated to that app. Its not available on App Store but asked if progarmer would consider releasing on App Store.

Pros: Does allow you to change icons on folders in the finder window. Cons: It would be nice to be able to change the icons in the sidebar of finder, but alas this tool does not do this nor does it seem to work on aliases.

If you are like me and really dislike the sea of blue folders on your mac and only a coloured dot to distinguish the difference between folders - then you will love this app! This app makes it easy to see the folders you use most often or want to see quicklly fast and easy - a breeze! Forget scrolling through similar titled folders and find the one you want by placing an icon or photo or logo or color right on the folder! Love it Love it Love it!!

I like this. It is very intuitive to use. Easily accepts my graphic images. Improves finding of folders on desktop.

This app is good but i can’t color the icon into different color if i dont color it into different color it wont stands up so please next update add a coloring icon feature. Other wise this is a great app :)

This app does exacty as it says. However, it only allows you to change the colour of one folder at a time which is very annoying and tedious when there are multiple folders that you want to make the same colour. other than that the app works well. My recommendation would be to change this problem in an update.

After my favourite folder icon maker was abandoned, I went looking for a replacement. This is the best of the bunch, IMHO. I really like the way it works…but the one thing it lacks that I miss is the ability to use text as the “stamp”. Sometimes the perfect icon image is a symbol from a certain font. If this feature is added, this will be a perfect replacement, and a 5-star app.

Amazing application to personalize the look and feel of your computer and your folders. It will leave a file named ‘Icon’ in the personalized folder, that contains those customizations. If you delete it, those customizations will be removed.

Easy to use and it would help you to customize your folders in seconds . It’s just a great App

Just bought this app, like the concept and idea of customizine folders. However seems to be a lot of bugs still needing to be taken care of. Hope they will fix in future otherwise may have wasted my 3 bucks. Color changes of folders are not taking place, and when clicking patterns it goes to finder? There are more so just be aware this still needs some work.

I love this app. It provides a way to make folders so much fun and interesting. I love how my folders look in Finder now, as each has a different theme. I’ve actually had several people tell me how cool my folders look! They are eager to learn how I was able to customize them. Obviously, I have been spreading the word about this app! I noticed that some cite certain glitches, however, in my experience, everything runs quite smoothly. Excellent app! I highly recommend.

I love this. It has project management so much easier. I am a journalist, a health care provider, and serve on a number of community boards and projects. Very quick to target vital data and research for easy access, and I love the ability to custom select icons, images etc. for identifying different ones. Love the custom colors which let me group and cluster files for a more “holographic” instant view and find. New version even slicker, faster, easier.

I don’t like to RTFD after I purchase an app. So far, I’ve had no mis-steps with this app. In other words, the app is transparent and does not require a manual. As a low-energy user, this approach to app-writing is greatly appreciated: I believe apps should be simple. Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem.

This app has been wonderful. It helps me identify folders at a glance, and it makes a big difference in my ability to quickly navigate a fairly large development machine. Customizations don’t propagate via Dropbox, however, so I’ve had to repeat using Folder Designer on all of my DropBox-connected machines to get the designs. to show up everywhere. One huge change I’d make: once I’ve chosen the pattern and background I want, allow draggin and dropping a folder onto the interface to customize the folder, rather than requiring navigation through my document hierarchy to that folder using the OPEN box.

I am super organized. I also like to make things cute. This satisfies both of those needs! Thank you!

I especially like the ability to use a photo and the ‘pattern’ for a really distinctive folder.

This is a really cool app. Well worth the price! Being way too fastidious about my Mac’s interface, I have really been looking for a modern app that can make folder icons. That said, the app is missing at least a number of features that would bring it to a 5: - Scaling bar is way too finicky to operate. The ability to use your cursor keys or just enter a number would be very helpful. - The tint function is nice, but the ability to change the transparency would be great so that you can add a color cast to a photo icon without totally killing the original photo’s color - The ability to do reflections would be nice. Similar to some of Apple’s screensavers. Love it!
